Ownership disclosure: Pococo, the shop whose night lights are discussed here, is owned and operated by the same company that publishes BuyingBench. We earn no commission on a Pococo order. That is a material connection, so we state it before anything else.
Short answer: a plug-in night light with a dusk sensor is a sensible choice for a nursery or a child’s room because it turns itself on only when the room gets dark and off again at dawn, so there is no switch for a child to forget and no battery to replace. The two things to check before you order are the plug type and the brightness you actually want.
BuyingBench has not used these lights in person. Everything below comes from what Pococo publishes on its product pages, read on 21 October 2026.
How they work
Both Pococo night lights are the plug-in kind: they fit a wall socket and light a small area below. Each has a built-in light sensor, so it switches on at dusk and off at dawn on its own. You do not turn them on at bedtime — they are already doing their job when the room darkens.
That is the main thing that separates a night light from a lamp. A lamp lights the room on demand; a night light waits for darkness. For a child who wakes at night, the soft glow marks the floor and the doorway without waking the rest of the house.
Which option fits which room
Pococo sells these in a two-pack and an eight-pack.
| Option | Published spec | Who it suits |
|---|
| Night Light Plug Into Wall, 2 Pack | 0.3 W, 40 lumen, soft white; brightens as the room darkens | One nursery or one child’s room |
| Night Light Plug Into Wall, 8 Pack | 0.5 W, 50 lumen, 3000K warm white | A hall, stair and several bedrooms at once |
The two-pack’s listing says its light “gets brighter as the room gets darker”, while the eight-pack describes a fixed warm white glow. The eight-pack covers more rooms for less per light, but a single night light in the right socket is all a small bedroom needs.
The plug detail worth checking
The two-pack’s product page states a standard US plug on 110–130V AC input and no batteries. That is a claim on the listing, not something we tested. If your sockets are not US-type, confirm the plug before you order, because a plug adapter is an extra part the listing does not mention. The eight-pack’s listing does not state its plug type, so treat it the same way: ask or check the page before you buy for a UK room.
Trade-offs, plainly
- No batteries is the point: a plug-in light is always where you left it, but it only works where there is a socket. A battery light fits a socket-less shelf; these do not.
- The sensor decides, not you. If a streetlight shines into the room, the sensor may read the room as lighter and stay dim or off. Position it away from the window.
- It is a marker, not a lamp. At 40–50 lumen these are for seeing the floor and the door, not for reading by.
For a child’s room, our advice is to place it low, near the door or the cot, out of reach of small hands, and clipped clear of anything flammable.
